On October 17, 2021, the Church will honor for the first time the contribution of medical science to humanity, as the Ecumenical Patriarchate establishes “Synaxis of all the Holy Healers”.

The relevant decision was taken by the Holy Synod, in a meeting, during which the “sacrificial and essential contribution of medical science and its healers” in dealing with the “severe pandemic” was discussed.

The following is the announcement of the Patriarchate:

At the session of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate that took place on July 21, 2021 under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarch, the sacrificial and essential contribution of medical science and its healers in dealing with the severe pandemic was discussed and appreciated.

Therefore, it was decided to establish the feast “The Synaxis of the Holy Doctors” on the Sunday of each year closest to the 17th and 18th of October, during which the Synaxis of the Saints Anargyros and the memory of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke are celebrated. On this day, the “Meeting of the Holy Doctors”, the Church will honor the full contribution of medical science and its healers to humanity.

Soon, in view of the Feast, a relevant circular of the Ecumenical Patriarch will be sent, as well as the Sequence of the Feast under the Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes .

We encourage the Dioceses, as well as the representatives and friends of the Patriarchal Network, to spread this news, in order to celebrate the Gathering of Saints. Doctors with all brilliance and to properly honor the Ministers in the field of health as they deserve.
