This year, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church did not honor the victims of the Holocaust on today’s International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
As of the time of publication of this publication, there is not a single address by a church hierarch, nor information about a Memorial Service being held.
It should be noted that the strength of the Bulgarian Church is not in such events – honoring the memory of victims of genocide and condemning crimes against humanity, but in other spheres – for example, honoring the “Russian soldiers who fell for the freedom of the Motherland”, condemning of gay prides and insulting the LGBTQ+ community, non-acceptance of the Istanbul Convention against violence against women, which in the so-called “traditional families” propagated by the Orthodox and other churches, are the most abused and humiliated, denounce of abortions, denounce of Pope Francis as “a heretic and forerunner of the Antichrist”, etc.
It is a shame that the Church in Bulgaria forgets the victims of human evil while they continue to multiply around the world, more specifically in Ukraine.
As long as the church bears the pride of its ancestors, who helped to save the Bulgarian Jews, let it not rest on old laurels, but also perform some pastoral ministry today.
