Over 150 skeletons dating from the 11th to the 8th centuries BCE have been unearthed in the first-ever Philistine cemetery as well as accompanying ceramic vessels, jewelry and some weapons. The data could support the claim inferred and recorded in the Bible, that the Philistines were migrants to the shores of ancient Israel. DNA testing is being carried out and will shed more scientific criteria on the claim that the Philistines, a sea faring people emigrated from the Aegean in the early Iron Age.
