Metropolitan Proterios of Diospolis fell asleep in the Lord

The Patriarchate of Alexandria announced the passing away of Metropolitan Proterios of Diospolis, who fell asleep in the Lord today, October 20, 2021.

Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria who is currently on a pastoral visit to Bukomba, Tanzania, performed a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of the Blessed Metropolitan Proterios, in the presence of Hierarchs of the Throne.

The late Metropolitan Proterios of Diospolis, known as Stylianos Pavlopoulos, was born in Naxos on July 28, 1946. He studied at the Theological School of Athens. He was ordained a deacon on December 12, 1972, and a protopresbyter on December 13, 1972, by the late Metropolitan Methodius of Aksum.

On March 3, 2001, he was ordained Metropolitan of Irenepolis (Tanzania). On October 27, 2004, he was elected Metropolitan of Ptolemaida and on November 26, 2014, he was appointed Titular Metropolitan of Diospolis.
