Archbishop of Nairobi presided over funeral service for late Metropolitan of Kampala | VIDEO & PHOTOS

On September 20, 2021, Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala was laid to rest at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Namungoona.

Since the late Metropolitan was accorded a state funeral, the president of Uganda was represented by the Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo. The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, represented Buganda Kingdom and read the condolence message from the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The ceremony was filled with dignitaries from different branches of government, religious institutions, police, the army etc.

Three gun salutes were shot as a token of respect for the late Metropolitan. The burial was presided over by Archbishop Makarios of Nairobi alongside Archbishop Ieronymos of Mwanza, Tanzania and Bishop Sylvester of Gulu and Eastern Uganda.

Eulogies by the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Minister for ICT, Hon Chris Baryomunsi, Chief mourner, Her Excellency Jessica Alupo and the burial ceremony of our spiritual father, #MetropolitanJonah presided over by Archbishop Makarios, alongside Bishop Silvestros and Ieronymos.
