Archbishop of Cyprus for Turkish reactions: Let them do whatever they want

Hopes are dim after the meeting of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres with the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades and the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, said Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus.

In his statements after the end of the hierarchical service that took place today at the Holy Monastery of Saint Neophytos in memory of Saint Neophytos, Archbishop Chrysostomos stated that the hopes are dim and assessed that nothing happened although – as he explained – he was not informed because the meeting ended late on Monday night.

Maybe, Archbishop Chrysostomos said, “there are some hopes, but since Ersin Tatar is headed from Ankara, we know very well that Ankara’s goal is to make a Turkish Cypriot state in Cyprus”, adding that “Turkey did but it is a pseudo-state, no one has recognized it. ”

They want, the Archbishop said, recognition from us, noting that “there is no person in Cyprus, that is, a Cypriot President, who can recognize a Turkish state in Cyprus. I do not believe it “, Archbishop Chrysostomos added.

“We as a church reject something like this,” he added.

Archbishop Chrysostomos also said that “in view of the elections, I do not think anyone would dare to leave even the slightest margin to think that talks can begin, and a two-state solution can be found.”

In fact, he continued, as Turkey wants, “the State should be equal to ours, that is, 18% should be fully equal to 82%”.

If there is something similar in the world, we will accept it, he said characteristically, adding that there is nothing similar.

He also said that he was informed that with the statements he had made the day before yesterday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry was annoyed.

“Let him be annoyed, I do not mind. It is my homeland, and I must support it. Let them do whatever they want. So, it will fall into the void. I think we should not follow up on the absurdities”, concluded Archbishop Chrysostomos.
