Further to yesterday’s announcement made by the Holy Archdiocese, restrictions implemented have now been extended and cover Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Wollongong and the Central Coast.

This means that as of 6:00 pm this evening until 11:59 pm on Friday July 9, public worship in all our churches located in these areas has been suspended.

All services the commemoration of the saint’s feast days, and the Divine Liturgies will be performed normally but only by the priest and the chanter.

The Archdiocese clarified that in case of baptism or wedding scheduled between now and July 9, the interested parties should contact their parish priest to make alternative arrangements.

It is also mentioned that based on compassionate grounds, only weddings scheduled for tomorrow can take place.

It is reminded that in yesterday’s encyclical the public worship is temporarily suspended in eight churches in Sydney, particularly in areas where a worrying increase in COVID-19 cases has been reported.

In this encyclical to the clergy, Archbishop Makarios of Australia said that it was with great sadness that he followed the unpleasant developments regarding the increased cases of the coronavirus which had occurred in recent days in Sydney.
