Archbishop Elpidophoros of America met Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner at Annunciation Cathedral on Saturday, May 29 while he was on a pastoral visit to Houston, Texas.

In a post on social media, the Archbishop said: “What a joy to meet Mayor Sylvester Turner, a dedicated servant of the people of Houston, and the President of the African American Mayors Association. I am impressed by his vision in establishing the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity and pledged a contribution on behalf of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.”

In a post on social media, the mayor said: “This morning, I had the pleasure to meet Archbishop Elpidophoros at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. This is his Eminence’s first visit to Texas. It was an honor to see the new renovations. I appreciate the pastoral team and church members for the warm welcome.”

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America also made a visit to the Assumption Parish in Galveston, Texas, where he was warmly welcomed by Fr. Stelios Sitaras and the faithful.

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was warmly welcomed by Fr. Thomas Colyandro and the faithful of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Serbian Orthodox Church. The Archbishop offered a memorial prayer at the grave of Archimandrite Theclitos Triantafilides, the Greek language tutor of Czar Nicholas II, who later founded this church in 1895.
