On Thursday, October 1, 2020, the Swiss Council of Religions (Conseil Suisse des religions) met for the first time at the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy, Geneva, in accordance with the protection measures of the competent health authorities.
The delegates were received, on behalf of the Host of the Orthodox Center, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, by Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland, Head of the stavropegic foundation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
At the meeting, as reported by fanarion.blogspot.com, the members of the Council discussed the items on the agenda, some of which were of great interest for the political leaders of the Swiss Confederation, in view of the forthcoming referendums.
At the end of the work, the members of the Council attended a dinner at the Orthodox Center, during which there was an opportunity for a more comfortable conversation and exchange of views between the attendees.
The Swiss Council of Religions was founded on May 15, 2006. The Council consists of the heads of the three so-called National Churches of Switzerland (Roman Catholic, Old Catholic and Evangelical Reformed), the Jewish community, the Metropolis of Switzerland (Ecumenical Patriarchate) and Islamic organizations.
